When Can I Eat After Teeth Removal?

1 min read

You get home after having a tooth pulled and the first thing that pops into your head usually isn’t about healing. It’s food. You’re hungry. Your mouth feels strange. Then you wonder if one bite is going to mess everything up.

The First Few Hours Matter More Than You Think

Wait until the numb feeling wears off before you eat. If you don’t, it’s surprisingly easy to bite your cheek or your tongue without noticing. Give the blood clot time to settle too, because that little clot protects the area while it heals.

Soft food is the right move on day one. Don’t rush it. Yogurt works well. Mashed potatoes usually go down easily. Soup is fine if it isn’t hot. Heat can irritate the area and nobody enjoys finding that out the hard way.

What Actually Feels Comfortable

• Cold applesauce. Simple, and it usually feels better than anything steaming.

• Scrambled eggs are gentle once chewing doesn’t feel awkward anymore.

• A smoothie is great, but skip the straw. That pulling motion isn’t worth the risk.

• Rice can sneak into the socket, which gets annoying fast, so I’d leave it for later.
