Why Wisdom Teeth Need Surgery
An impacted wisdom tooth can press against the tooth beside it. Food can also get trapped around the area, which makes cleaning awkward and raises the chance of infection. Honestly, if a wisdom tooth keeps causing problems, removing it is usually better than repeatedly dealing with the same pain.
Signs Your Tooth May Be Causing Trouble
• Pain that keeps coming back, especially around the very back tooth, deserves a dental check rather than another round of hoping it’ll disappear.
• A swollen gum around the wisdom tooth can make brushing uncomfortable, and that’s usually when people start avoiding the area altogether.
• Jaw stiffness. Annoying, particularly when opening your mouth wide suddenly becomes a whole task.
What Happens During Wisdom Tooth Surgery
Local anaesthetic is commonly used, so you’re awake but shouldn’t feel sharp pain during the procedure. For more complicated cases, sedation may also be discussed. The actual removal varies depending on how deeply the tooth is buried and how it has grown.
After the Tooth Is Removed
• Soft food feels much easier at first. Nobody needs a heroic meal after dental surgery.
• Avoid disturbing the extraction area because the blood clot needs time to form and stay in place.
When Should You Get It Done?
Don’t wait until a wisdom tooth becomes unbearable before getting it checked. That’s my strong opinion here. A planned procedure is generally a much nicer experience than dealing with sudden swelling or an infection that has already started.
