How to Get Rid of Bad Breath?

2 min read

Bad breath can make you weirdly self-conscious. You start talking with your hand near your mouth. You chew gum before every conversation. And sometimes you wonder if people noticed it before you did.

The good news is that most everyday bad breath has a pretty ordinary cause.

Start With Your Mouth, Not the Gum

Brushing twice a day is the obvious part, but technique matters. Use a soft toothbrush and spend around two minutes brushing. Get along the gumline too, because plaque likes to sit there.

Your tongue deserves attention as well.

Keep Your Mouth From Getting Too Dry

Saliva is one of your mouth’s quiet cleaning systems. When your mouth dries out, odor can become much more noticeable. Drink water regularly, particularly after waking up and after exercising.

Look at Your Daily Habits

Certain habits leave your mouth feeling stale for hours. Smoking is a big one. So is regularly drinking very little water. Some foods also leave strong odors behind, though that usually settles once the food has passed and you clean your mouth.

Know When It’s Time for a Dentist

You shouldn’t have to spend the whole day wondering if someone can smell your breath. A clean mouth feels better anyway. And once that worry gets out of your head, conversations become much easier. Isn’t that a better reason to deal with it?
