How Do You Eliminate Bad Breath?

2 min read

Bad Breath Doesn’t Care How Much Mouthwash You Use

You brush in the morning, rinse with something minty, maybe pop a piece of gum before a meeting. Then by lunch that taste creeps back.

Clean Better, Not Harder

Your toothbrush needs to reach everywhere, not just the easy front surfaces. Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and slow down around the gumline, where plaque likes to pile up. Gentle wins. Scrubbing hard just irritates things.

Then get between your teeth once a day. Floss works, or try interdental brushes if your teeth have bigger gaps. Do it before the bad breath reminds you, not after.

Your Tongue Is Where the Trouble Hides

That rough surface on your tongue traps bacteria and debris like a welcome mat. Give it a gentle scrub when you brush, or use a tongue scraper. Takes ten seconds. Weirdly satisfying too.

And drink water. A dry mouth gives those smell making bacteria free rein, because there’s no saliva washing them away.

Look Past the Minty Cover Ups

Sometimes your routine isn’t the problem. Garlic and onions leave odors that brushing barely touches. Smoking makes breath noticeably worse. Some medicines dry your mouth out, and dry mouth almost always means worse breath.

When It Won’t Quit

Bad breath that keeps coming back no matter what? Time to look deeper. Gum disease is a common cause, especially if your gums bleed when you brush or look puffy. Cavities trap food and bacteria too, and you can’t brush those away.

A dentist can check all of this and clean the spots you can’t reach at home. And if your mouth checks out fine, they can help figure out whether the cause lives somewhere else.

A Routine That Actually Works

Brush morning and night, gumline included. That’s where plaque parties.

Scrape your tongue gently. The coating on it holds the smelliest bacteria.

Sip water through the day, especially if your mouth runs dry.

Skip the industrial strength mouthwash. If the smell keeps returning, masking it harder isn’t the answer.
