How to Control Teeth Pain?

2 min read

Tooth pain has a way of taking over everything. You try to eat. You try to sleep. Even talking starts to feel annoying because one side of your mouth keeps reminding you it’s there.

Start by Calming the Pain

Rinse your mouth with warm salt water. It sounds almost too simple, though it really does make irritated gums feel better. Swish it around gently for half a minute and spit it out. Don’t make it painfully hot because that usually makes things feel worse.

A cold pack against the outside of your cheek works well if your face feels swollen. Keep it there for about fifteen minutes. Then give your skin a break before doing it again.

Pain Relief That Actually Helps

If the pain keeps hanging around, take an over the counter pain reliever exactly as the label says. Don’t place aspirin directly on the tooth. People still do that for some reason and it can burn the gum. I’d skip every internet trick that promises instant relief. Most of them just waste your time.

• Warm salt water. Old fashioned, sure, though it often settles an irritated mouth surprisingly fast.

• A cold compress on your cheek feels much better than pressing ice straight against the tooth.

• Pain medicine helps you get through the day. It doesn’t fix the reason your tooth hurts.

Pay Attention to What You’re Eating

Right now your tooth doesn’t need a challenge. Stick with softer food until the pain settles. Yogurt works. Scrambled eggs are usually easy too. Crunchy snacks and very sweet treats often make the ache flare up again.

And try chewing on the other side if you can. It feels like a tiny adjustment, though it gives the sore tooth a chance to settle instead of getting bumped every few minutes.

Keep the Area Clean Anyway

A lot of people stop brushing because it hurts. That’s the wrong move. Brush gently around the sore area with a soft toothbrush. Food left around an irritated tooth often makes the pain stick around longer than it should.

Floss carefully as well. Sometimes a small bit of food trapped between two teeth is the whole reason you’re uncomfortable.
