Removal of One Wisdom Tooth

2 min read

Why Remove Just One Wisdom Tooth?

A wisdom tooth may need removal because it’s trapped under the gum. It can also press against the tooth beside it or create a spot that’s difficult to clean. Repeated pain is another pretty obvious reason to take it seriously.

The Tooth’s Position Matters

• Local anaesthetic does the important work here. You should feel pressure, but sharp pain isn’t what you’re supposed to experience.

• A straightforward extraction may feel surprisingly quick, though nobody gets extra points for watching the clock.

• Stitches are sometimes needed when the gum has been opened, and they usually aren’t something you’ll think about for long.

What Recovery Feels Like

The first few hours are mostly about letting the area settle. Your mouth may stay numb for a while, so eating immediately isn’t a brilliant idea. Once the numbness fades, some soreness is normal.

Honestly, one tooth feels manageable for most people. The trick is to leave the area alone rather than constantly checking it with your tongue. Your mouth has enough going on without you poking the wound every ten minutes.

A Few Things to Avoid

• Smoking can interfere with healing, so skipping it while the socket heals is the sensible move.

• Very hot food or drinks can irritate the area, particularly while your mouth is still numb.

When Should You Call the Dentist?

Some discomfort and swelling are expected. But worsening pain after a few days deserves attention, especially if you’re also noticing a bad taste or unpleasant smell from the extraction site.

Heavy bleeding that doesn’t settle with firm pressure also needs dental advice. So does a fever or swelling that keeps getting worse.
