How to Remove Coffee Stains From Teeth

2 min read

Don’t Brush Right After Coffee

Because coffee is acidic, brushing immediately afterward isn’t ideal. Give your mouth some time before brushing. In the meantime, rinse with plain water. It’s simple, but it gets coffee residue out of your mouth without adding another round of scrubbing.

You can also drink water after your coffee. Honestly, this is one habit I’d pick over buying a drawer full of whitening products.

Try Whitening Toothpaste Carefully

If your teeth become sensitive, switch back to a regular fluoride toothpaste. Whitening shouldn’t hurt.

• Look for a fluoride toothpaste with a whitening claim on the label, but don’t assume stronger means better.

• Soft bristles are enough. A firm brush can feel satisfying while doing your enamel no favors.

• Rinsing with water after coffee is an easy habit, and you barely have to think about it.

When Home Whitening Isn’t Enough

Raj noticed his teeth looking darker after months of drinking coffee during his morning commute. He started rinsing with water after his first cup and stopped reopening the same five tabs every morning while brushing with a whitening toothpaste. After a while, his teeth looked cleaner without him constantly thinking about them.

Keep the Coffee, Lose Some of the Stain

A bright smile doesn’t require turning every cup of coffee into a guilty pleasure. But if your teeth could talk after that fourth refill, what do you think they’d say?
