How to remove tea stains from teeth

2 min read

Why Tea Leaves Teeth Looking Yellow

Tea is comforting. The staining? Less so.

If you’ve noticed a beige or brown tint creeping in, don’t panic. You probably don’t need some aggressive whitening hack from the internet.

Start With Your Toothbrush

• A whitening toothpaste, especially one made for surface stains, can lift some of that tea-colored buildup, though stubborn staining won’t disappear overnight.

• Don’t scrub harder just because the stain annoys you. More pressure isn’t the secret ingredient here.

Make Tea Less Likely to Stain

Priya started doing this after noticing her front teeth looked darker in photos. She kept a glass of water beside her morning tea and stopped reopening the same five tabs every morning while her tea went cold. Tiny change. Much easier to keep doing.

When to See a Dentist

If one tooth suddenly changes color, the discoloration won’t brush away, or you have pain or sensitivity that sticks around, get it checked. Not every dark tooth is a tea stain.

For ordinary surface staining, though, the boring approach wins. Brush well. Clean between your teeth. Rinse with water after tea. Use proven whitening products if you actually need more brightness.

Your morning cup can stay. Maybe your teeth don’t have to advertise exactly how many cups you’ve had.
