How Much Are False Teeth?

3 min read

If you are looking at teeth the cost can seem confusing at first. A denture might cost a hundred pounds through the NHS while private treatment can go up to four figures depending on what you need and where you go.

In England dentures are covered under NHS Band 3 treatment. From 1 April 2026 the Band 3 charge is £332.10 for a course of treatment that includes dentures. Some people qualify for NHS dental treatment too.

So what do private dentures cost?

Private prices vary quite a bit.. That’s where the type of denture starts to matter.

Current private price examples from Bupa practices show acrylic dentures starting around £885 at one practice while other locations list prices above £1,000 and even £1,500. Partial dentures also vary widely because the design depends on how many teeth need replacing and what teeth’re still available to support the denture.

Full or partial dentures?

A full denture replaces all the teeth in either the lower jaw. If you need both you’ll normally need two dentures so the total cost rises.

Partial dentures replace some missing teeth while keeping your remaining teeth in place. They’re often less expensive than a denture although the material and design can change the final price.

• Full acrylic dentures, with private examples starting around £885 although some practices charge considerably more.

• Partial dentures are often cheaper. The final price depends heavily on the design and materials.

• NHS dentures in England currently fall under Band 3 which costs £332.10 when you’re paying the NHS charge.

Why can false teeth cost much?

The denture itself isn’t the thing you’re paying for. Your dentist needs to examine your mouth. Then impressions are taken so the denture fits properly and adjustments may be needed once you’re wearing it.

Material makes a difference too. Basic acrylic dentures are generally less expensive than specialised options while private dentistry gives you more choice over materials and appearance. The NHS also points out that private denture prices can vary substantially based on the type and material selected.

What about repairs and replacements?

Don’t assume you’ll need a new denture every time something feels wrong. Sometimes a repair or adjustment is enough.

Is a denture worth it?

Honestly I’d be careful, about choosing on price. A denture that fits badly can become irritating quickly and saving money upfront doesn’t feel like much of a win if you’re uncomfortable every time you eat.

At the time paying more doesn’t automatically mean you’ll get something better for your particular mouth. The fit matters enormously.

Ask for the treatment cost before agreeing to anything. That should make it clearer whether you’re paying for the denture or whether examinations, extractions and adjustments are included.
