Start by Getting the Buildup Under Control
If your gums are bleeding don’t respond by avoiding the area with your toothbrush. That usually leaves plaque behind. Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and clean between your teeth every day. An electric toothbrush is fine if you find it easier to clean with one but a manual brush works too. The important part is actually reaching the gumline of rushing through the brushing.
Tartar is a problem. Once plaque hardens into tartar brushing won’t remove it. A dental professional needs to clean it away. This is one reason professional cleaning isn’t some extra you squeeze in when you have time. If tartar is sitting along the gumline you’re trying to solve a problem with the tool.
Give Your Gums a Proper Cleaning Routine
• Twice- brushing with fluoride toothpaste especially before bed is the part you really don’t want to skip.
•. Use an interdental brush every day. If there are spaces between your teeth an interdental brush can feel much easier than forcing floss into the gap.
• A professional cleaning matters when tartar has built up because that hardened material won’t simply disappear with brushing.
Know When Home Care Isn’t Enough
This is where people often get confused. Gingivitis can be reversed,. Periodontitis is more serious because the infection and inflammation can damage the tissues and bone supporting the teeth. You might notice teeth, receding gums, persistent bad breath or discomfort while chewing. Sometimes there isn’t pain at all which is exactly why waiting for pain is a bad test.
If your dentist finds gum pockets or significant buildup below the gumline you may need scaling and root planing often called a deep cleaning. Advanced cases sometimes need medication or surgical treatment. The treatment depends on how much damage has occurred.
Keep the Problem From Coming Back
Brush daily. Clean between your teeth every day. Keep appointments based on your dentists recommendation. If you have diabetes, smoke or have already had disease your dentist may want to monitor your gums more closely.
Bleeding gums aren’t something you need to accept as normal. If they’re swollen or bleeding regularly get them checked of waiting for the problem to become painful.. If a tooth is becoming loose your gums are very swollen or you notice a lump, in your mouth seek dental care promptly.
