What Is Root Canal Treatment?

2 min read

A Root Canal Saves the Tooth, Not Punishes It

The pulp inside your tooth gets infected or damaged, and that’s when things get painful. The pulp holds nerves and blood vessels, so when it’s irritated, you feel it. A root canal removes that damaged pulp, cleans the space, seals it shut. Tooth stays in your mouth, keeps doing its job. Simple as that.

Why It Happens

Deep decay is the usual suspect. A cavity grows large enough to reach the pulp, bacteria move in, infection follows.

And sometimes pain isn’t even the first sign. Lingering sensitivity after a hot drink. Biting down feels wrong on one specific tooth. Small clues that add up.

Does It Hurt?

A buddy of mine had one done after his molar screamed every time he ate ice cream. He’d spent weeks googling whether he could just wait it out. Finally booked the appointment, got it done, and said the whole thing felt way less dramatic than the dread. Back to normal eating within days.

How Long Does It Take?

Some finish in one visit. Others need two, especially with a complicated infection. Depends on the tooth and what the dentist finds in there.
Afterward there’s some tenderness for a few days. Manageable. Follow the instructions about eating and cleaning while it settles.
