Why Do Wisdom Teeth Cause Problems?
Some wisdom teeth grow normally and sit in line with the other teeth. Those are usually quiet. You might forget they’re even there.
But many wisdom teeth become impacted, which means they get stuck under the gum or push against nearby teeth because there isn’t enough room. That pressure can feel annoying at first. Later, it can turn into real discomfort.
Signs Your Wisdom Teeth Are Acting Up
• Swelling around the gum area, which is the kind of thing you notice while brushing your teeth
• Trouble opening your mouth fully. Not dramatic, just that strange tight feeling that wasn’t there before
• A bad taste that keeps returning even after cleaning your mouth, which honestly gets old quickly
Do All Wisdom Teeth Need Removal?
No. Removing every wisdom tooth automatically isn’t the best approach. If a wisdom tooth is healthy, fully grown in, and easy to clean, keeping it makes sense.
But I’m firmly on the side of removing problem wisdom teeth before they create bigger trouble. Waiting until the pain becomes unbearable usually makes the whole experience feel worse.
What Happens During Wisdom Tooth Removal?
The procedure sounds scarier than it usually feels. Dentists use numbing medication, so you shouldn’t feel sharp pain during the removal. Afterward, your mouth needs some time to settle, and you’ll have to be a little careful with that area.
