Why Does an Upper Wisdom Tooth Grow Sideways?
Wisdom teeth arrive late. By the time they try to come through, there may not be enough room left for them to sit normally. An upper wisdom tooth can tilt toward the cheek or lean into the tooth in front of it.
What Happens If You Leave It Alone?
Some people wait because the pain isn’t constant. I get why. But leaving a sideways upper wisdom tooth without checking it is usually a bad gamble.
Raj had ignored his wisdom tooth for months because it only bothered him occasionally. He finally booked a dental visit after he stopped reopening the same five tabs every morning just to look up symptoms during work breaks. The scan showed the tooth was angled toward the nearby molar.
A dentist can check the position with an X-ray and decide what makes sense. Sometimes monitoring works. But if the tooth is causing repeated issues, removal is often the cleaner option.
Treatment Depends on Your Tooth Position
Your dentist won’t look only at whether the tooth is sideways. They will check how far it has developed and how close it is to important structures nearby.
• A regular checkup route, if the tooth isn’t causing problems and your dentist feels comfortable watching it
• Removal becomes the better choice when the tooth keeps irritating the gums or affecting the tooth beside it
• A scan before treatment, because guessing the angle from symptoms alone is never a smart move
