Don’t Skip Between the Teeth
A toothbrush can’t reach every narrow space between your teeth. Cleaning those areas once a day helps remove plaque before it gets comfortable there. Floss is fine if you use it easily. An interdental cleaner works too, particularly if flossing has become awkward.
• Floss before bed if that’s when you can actually stick with it. A perfect routine you never follow isn’t much of a routine.
• Tight spaces need patience, not force. If the floss keeps snapping into your gums, slow down and guide it gently around each tooth.
Watch the Constant Snacking
Pregnancy hunger is real. So is the temptation to nibble throughout the day, especially when a full meal suddenly sounds awful. The issue for your teeth is how often they’re exposed to food, particularly sugary foods and drinks.
Don’t Put Dental Visits on Hold
Priya found this out after noticing that her gums bled every time she brushed. She stopped reopening the same five tabs every morning looking for advice and simply mentioned it at her dental appointment. The dentist showed her where she was missing plaque, and her brushing felt much easier after that.
Make the Routine Boring
The best plaque routine during pregnancy is usually the boring one you can repeat without thinking. Brush in the morning. Clean between your teeth once a day. Brush again before bed. Keep water nearby when you’re thirsty.
And if your mouth feels different during pregnancy, don’t assume you’re doing everything wrong. Your gums are responding to changes happening throughout your body. A little extra care usually gets you back on track.
Pregnancy already gives you enough things to think about. Your toothbrush shouldn’t be one of them, should it?
