Make Brushing Easier on Your Teeth
Brushing twice a day still matters. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and gentle pressure because scrubbing harder doesn’t remove plaque better. It can irritate your gums and wear down exposed tooth surfaces instead.
Give Your Gums Some Attention
Plaque likes to collect along the gumline. That’s where brushing needs to slow down a little. Angle the bristles toward the gums and move gently across the area. Don’t attack it.
If your gums bleed regularly, don’t simply decide that bleeding is normal because you’re getting older. Tell your dentist. Persistent bleeding deserves a proper look.
Clean Between Your Teeth
• Floss when the spaces are tight. It takes a little practice, but once your hands get used to the motion, it feels quicker than you’d expect.
• Wider gaps between teeth? An interdental brush often makes more sense, although you’ll want the right size for each space.
• Water flossers are especially handy when bending over a sink with tiny pieces of string isn’t your idea of a good morning.
