Toothache Relief That Actually Works
A toothache takes over your whole day fast. Even a dull one feels impossible to ignore, especially at night when everything’s quiet and there’s nothing to distract you from it. You just want relief, now.
Start with warm salt water. Swish it around for about 30 seconds, spit it out. Cleans the area, calms irritated gums, nothing harsh about it.
Simple Relief You Can Try at Home
Cold compress helps too, especially if your cheek feels sore or swollen. Ice pack wrapped in a towel, held against your cheek for around 15 minutes, then give your skin a break before doing it again.
Don’t put aspirin directly on the tooth or gum though. Sounds like a shortcut, but it can actually irritate the tissue and leave you with a second problem on top of the first.
Watch What You’re Eating
Keep food away from the sore side for now if chewing makes it worse. Very hot or very cold food can set off a sensitive tooth too, so lukewarm stuff is usually the easier choice.
Soft food’s your friend for a day or two if biting down makes the tooth complain. Skip sugary snacks as well, they tend to make an already unhappy tooth feel even more unhappy.
When You Actually Need a Dentist
Toothache usually has a real cause behind it. Decay, a cracked tooth, an infection, any of those. Rinsing and cold compresses soothe things temporarily, but they’re not fixing a damaged tooth.
See a dentist if the pain’s lasted more than a day or two, keeps coming back, or is getting worse. Swelling deserves attention too.
Let the Tooth Settle
Keep brushing, just be gentle around the sore spot. Still important though, plaque sitting around an already irritated tooth isn’t helping anything.
Home care’s for comfort, not a substitute for actual treatment. Once the real cause gets handled, the pain usually stops running your whole day.
And if a toothache’s waking you up at night, that’s about as clear a complaint as your tooth can make. Why keep arguing with it?
