How to Get Rid of Ulcers Without Making Them Worse

3 min read

People say “ulcer” like it means one thing, but it doesn’t. A mouth ulcer is very different from a stomach ulcer. If the sore is inside your mouth, it usually settles down within a week or two. A stomach ulcer needs proper treatment because it often comes from an infection or from taking pain medicines too often. Guessing is where people get stuck.

And if your stomach pain keeps coming back, don’t just keep buying antacids because they feel like a quick fix. They hide the problem for a while. They don’t solve it.

The stomach ulcer part

Most stomach ulcers need medicine that lowers stomach acid. If a bacteria called H. pylori is causing it, you’ll need antibiotics too. That’s the piece people skip, then they wonder why the pain returns a month later.

• A doctor’s visit feels like a hassle. It usually saves weeks of trying random remedies that never really land.

• Spicy food isn’t always the villain. Pay attention to what actually bothers your stomach instead of following every tip you hear.

• Pain relievers deserve a second look, especially if you reach for them often. Some of them quietly keep ulcers from healing.

Mouth ulcers need a different approach

They hurt more than they look like they should. Eating turns annoying. Even talking gets old after a while.

Rinse your mouth with warm salt water once or twice a day. Use a protective gel if the sore keeps rubbing against your teeth. Soft food for a couple of days isn’t exciting, but it makes eating feel normal again.

I also think people overcomplicate mouth ulcers. Every new internet trick doesn’t deserve your attention. Give the sore a chance to heal instead of throwing five different products at it.

Give your body fewer reasons to fight itself

Healing isn’t only about medicine. Sleep matters more than most people expect. So does drinking enough water. If stress keeps showing up in your life, your body notices even if you pretend it doesn’t.

Because smoking slows healing, quitting gives ulcers a better chance to disappear. The same goes for drinking too much alcohol. You don’t have to make your life perfect. You do have to stop making the sore work harder than it already is.

• Enough water, because a dry mouth gets irritated faster than you’d think.

• If food always seems to trigger pain, keep a simple note on your phone. After a week you’ll usually spot the pattern without much effort.
