How to Get Rid of Teeth Pain?

3 min read

Tooth pain has a way of taking over everything. You try to work. You try to eat. Then you notice you’re chewing on one side of your mouth without even thinking about it. It gets old fast.

The first thing to know is that pain is a message. It isn’t the actual problem. If you only keep chasing the pain and ignore what’s causing it, you’ll probably end up right back where you started.

Start With What You Can Do Right Now

If the pain showed up today, rinse your mouth with warm salt water. It helps calm irritated tissue and washes away bits of food that sometimes get trapped around a sore tooth. It feels simple because it is.

A cold pack against your cheek also makes a real difference if there’s swelling. Keep it on for a short stretch. Give your skin a break. Then repeat if you need to.

• Warm salt water. Nothing fancy, but people skip it because it seems too obvious.

• Pain medicine from the pharmacy works well if you follow the directions on the label, and don’t keep taking it for days while pretending the tooth is suddenly fine.

• Skip very cold drinks for a while. That sharp little zing usually isn’t worth testing again.

Don’t Put Random Things On The Tooth

People still talk about placing aspirin directly on the sore tooth. Don’t do it. It doesn’t fix the pain and it can irritate the soft tissue around your gums. I wish that advice would finally disappear.

Clove oil gets mentioned a lot too. Some people like it. I think it’s better to spend that energy finding out why the tooth hurts in the first place.

Figure Out What’s Actually Causing It

A cavity is one common reason. Sometimes the pain comes from a cracked tooth. Other times it’s an infection deep inside the tooth where brushing can’t reach anymore. And yes, your wisdom teeth can make the whole side of your jaw ache even though it doesn’t feel like they’re the problem.

When You Should Stop Waiting

Some signs shouldn’t be ignored. If your face starts swelling or you notice pus around the tooth, get dental care as soon as you can. The same goes for fever. An infection inside a tooth doesn’t usually disappear because you had one better day.

• Swelling around your jaw. That’s your cue to stop guessing.

• Pain that shoots through the whole side of your face, especially while eating, deserves a proper check instead of another home remedy.

Because even if the pain fades for a while, the damage inside the tooth often keeps moving. That’s the frustrating part. It feels better just long enough to convince people nothing is wrong.

The Best Way To Keep It From Coming Back

Brush gently twice a day. Clean between your teeth. Don’t keep putting off small dental problems because they’re usually the easiest ones to fix.
