How to Clean Your Teeth Properly?

3 min read

How To Actually Brush Your Teeth Right

Brushing isn’t hard. Doing it properly’s a bit different though. Most people rush through it, scrub too hard, or spend most of the time on the front teeth just because that’s what shows up in the mirror.

Get The Technique Right First

Hold the brush at a slight angle toward the gumline. Small gentle movements, not dragging it hard across your teeth. Give yourself enough time to actually cover the whole mouth so the back teeth don’t get skipped.

Two minutes is the rule worth sticking to. Feels long at first, especially once you realize you’d been brushing for maybe 30 seconds this whole time without noticing. After a week it stops feeling long at all.

Don’t Skip The Gumline

Plaque loves exactly where teeth meet gums. Brushing just the flat tooth surfaces isn’t enough, angle the bristles toward that line and go gently.

Pressing harder doesn’t mean cleaner either, that’s a myth. Too much pressure just irritates gums and wears down enamel over time.

Soft bristled brush is the better call, especially if your gums feel sore afterward. Two minutes, twice a day, morning and before bed, simple enough that it actually sticks. And the back teeth deserve attention too even though nobody’s checking them in photos.

Clean Between Your Teeth As Well

A toothbrush just can’t reach every gap. That’s where flossing comes in, or interdental brushes if regular floss keeps giving you trouble.

Your Tongue Needs A Pass Too

Gentle brush after your teeth. Bacteria collect there and contribute to bad breath. No need to scrub until it feels raw, a few light passes does the job.

Rinsing And Toothbrush Care

Spit out the toothpaste after brushing rather than rinsing with a ton of water right after. Keeps more fluoride around your teeth longer, which matters if you’re using a fluoride toothpaste to begin with.

Rinse the brush itself and let it dry out properly, don’t leave it sealed up damp all day. Swap it out once the bristles start looking worn or splayed.

Electric toothbrush’s worth considering too, especially if you tend to rush, the built in timer keeps you honest about the two minutes. Manual works just fine though if your technique’s solid.

It’s The Small Habits That Add Up

Proper cleaning was never about some elaborate bathroom routine. It’s just doing the basics well enough that plaque never gets a real chance to settle in.

Brush gently, clean between your teeth, give your gums some attention, keep doing it twice a day.
