How Can I Reduce Tooth Pain?

2 min read

Try Simple Relief at Home

A cold compress is another solid option, especially if your face feels tender or slightly swollen. Wrap ice in a cloth and hold it against the outside of your cheek for around 15 minutes. Give your skin a break before doing it again.

And don’t put aspirin directly on your tooth or gums. It can irritate the tissue and leave you with another problem on top of the first one.

Clean the Area, But Be Gentle

• Warm saltwater rinse, especially when the gums feel irritated.

• A cold pack against your cheek can take the edge off, though don’t press ice directly onto your skin.

• Pain medicine works best when you follow the label rather than guessing the dose.

• Skip very cold or very hot foods for now. Your tooth doesn’t need the extra argument.

Know When You Need a Dentist

Tooth pain often comes from a cavity, a cracked tooth, an infection, or an irritated gum. A dentist needs to find the cause because pain relief alone won’t repair damaged tooth tissue.

For tonight, calm the pain. Tomorrow, deal with the reason it showed up. Your tooth has already made its complaint pretty clear. Why keep making it repeat itself?
