How Can I Get Rid of Halitosis?

2 min read

Bad breath can be surprisingly stubborn. You brush your teeth, chew gum maybe use mouthwash and then an hour later you’re checking your breath again.

The good news is that halitosis usually has a reason. The trick is finding that reason of trying to cover the smell.

Start With Your Mouth

• Your tongue deserves attention too. A gentle tongue scraper works here especially if you notice a coating sitting near the back.

• Flossing is worth the extra minutes because food trapped between teeth starts smelling once bacteria get to work on it.

• Brush twice a day with fluoride toothpaste and don’t scrub harder thinking that pressure means teeth.

Don’t Just Mask the Smell

Mouthwash can make your breath feel fresher. Thats useful.. Relying on mint to hide a problem is a bit like spraying air freshener over a damp towel.

If your gums bleed when you brush feel swollen or seem tender get them checked. Gum disease is a cause of persistent bad breath and better brushing alone won’t always sort out an established problem.

Pay Attention to Dry Mouth

Saliva does work than most people realise. It helps clear food and bacteria, from your mouth. When your mouth gets dry that cleaning effect drops and bad breath can become more noticeable.

Drink water regularly. If your mouth feels dry at night notice whether you’re breathing through your mouth while sleeping. Some medicines can also cause mouth so it’s worth mentioning this to your dentist or doctor rather than simply buying stronger mouthwash.

When Halitosis Keeps Coming Back

If your breath still smells bad after improving your hygiene for a couple of weeks book a dental appointment. A dentist can look for gum disease, tooth decay, infection or another dental cause that isn’t obvious when you look in the mirror.

Sometimes the mouth isn’t the whole story. Reflux, sinus problems, tonsil stones or certain health conditions can contribute to bad breath. Your dentist can help decide what needs checking

So Can You Get Rid of Halitosis?

Usually yes.. The answer isn’t always another mouthwash.

Clean your teeth properly. Give your tongue some attention. Keep your mouth from getting painfully dry.. If the smell keeps returning despite doing those things get your teeth and gums examined.
