Does Pomegranate Stain Teeth?

2 min read

Why Pomegranate Can Leave a Mark

Fresh pomegranate arils aren’t exactly a dental disaster. Eating them occasionally is very different from sipping pomegranate juice slowly throughout the day, where your teeth keep getting exposed to the drink for longer.

And juice deserves a little more caution because it tends to spread over the whole mouth. If it also contains added sugar, that gives your teeth another reason not to love the habit.

How to Eat Pomegranate Without Worrying About Stains

The trick is to avoid letting the juice hang around on your teeth. Have some water afterward. Swishing gently is enough. You don’t need a complicated routine.

• Water afterward. It helps wash away the leftover juice instead of letting that red color sit there.

• Pomegranate arils are my pick over slowly sipping the juice. You get the fruit without turning every snack into a long acid exposure.

What About Pomegranate Juice?

Juice is where I’d be more careful. Frequent exposure to acidic drinks raises the risk of enamel erosion, and sugary drinks can also contribute to tooth decay.

That doesn’t mean pomegranate juice is forbidden. It means drinking it in one sitting makes more sense than nursing it for hours. Your teeth get a break.
