If your teeth look yellow, polishing can make them look cleaner. But it usually won’t make naturally yellow teeth white. That’s the bit people often miss.
A Quick Example
Raj had his teeth polished because they looked yellow near the front. Afterward, he stopped reopening the same five tabs every morning to search for whitening treatments because the surface stains were mostly gone. His teeth looked cleaner, but they still had their natural warm shade.
That result is completely normal. If the yellow color comes mainly from inside the tooth, polishing won’t suddenly turn it white.
When Whitening Makes More Sense
If your teeth are clean but you’re still unhappy with their shade, whitening is usually the better option. A dentist can also check why the teeth look discolored before treatment, which matters if one tooth is much darker than the others. A single dark tooth can have a different cause and shouldn’t simply be treated like ordinary staining.
And don’t assume that stronger whitening is automatically better. Overdoing bleaching can cause sensitivity and irritate the gums, so more treatment isn’t always a smarter treatment.
Polishing is great when the problem is sitting on your teeth. If the yellow is part of the tooth’s natural color, though, polishing has reached its limit. And maybe that’s worth remembering before you spend money chasing a shade your teeth were never meant to have.
