Why Remove All Four?
Dentists often recommend removing all four wisdom teeth when they’re likely to cause trouble. One tooth might already be stuck under the gum. Another could be growing at an awkward angle. And if one is causing problems, the others may eventually follow.
What the Procedure Feels Like
You’ll receive local anaesthetic, so the area becomes numb before the dentist starts. You shouldn’t feel sharp pain during the extraction, although there can be pressure or movement. If the teeth are impacted, the dentist may need to make a small opening in the gum before removing them.
The First Few Days After Surgery
• Soft food is your friend, especially during the first couple of days when chewing feels awkward.
• Ice packs are useful early on, although you don’t need to sit there holding one against your face all afternoon.
• Rest matters more than you think. Trying to get back to a normal routine too quickly is rarely worth it.
When Should You Call the Dentist?
Some soreness and swelling are expected. Severe or worsening pain deserves attention, though. The same goes for heavy bleeding, fever, or swelling that keeps getting worse instead of settling down.
Getting four wisdom teeth removed isn’t exactly a fun afternoon. Nobody’s pretending it is. But if all four are creating problems, dealing with them together often feels much quicker than dragging the issue out for years.
