How to Get Rid of Toothache?

2 min read

A toothache has a way of taking over your whole day. You try to work. You try to eat. Then that dull ache keeps pulling your attention back. The first thing I’d do is rinse your mouth with warm salt water because it clears away bits of food and soothes the area enough that you feel like you can think again.

Figure out what’s making it hurt

Tooth pain doesn’t appear for no reason. A cavity is common. A cracked tooth does it too. Sometimes the gums around the tooth get swollen and tender. The exact cause matters because the fix depends on it, even if the pain feels almost identical.

What actually helps at home

• A cold pack against your cheek for about 15 minutes, especially if the area feels swollen after a long afternoon

• Sleep with your head raised. It sounds almost too simple, yet plenty of people notice the throbbing eases once they stop lying completely flat.

• Clove oil has a long history. Use only a tiny amount, and keep it away from your gums because too much can irritate them.

• Soft foods for a day or two, since chewing on the sore side just keeps reminding you the tooth is angry

Know when to stop waiting

Sometimes the ache comes with swelling in your face. Or you notice a fever. Maybe the pain is so sharp you can’t sleep at all. Don’t try to tough that out. Those signs deserve prompt dental care because infections don’t usually settle down by themselves.
