How to Stop Wisdom Tooth Pain

2 min read

Start With Simple Pain Relief

A warm saltwater rinse is a first move. Mix half a teaspoon of salt into a glass of warm water. Swish it gently around the area for around 30 seconds then spit it out. Do not scrub the gum afterward. It is already annoyed.

An ice pack against the outside of your cheek can also take the edge off swelling. Keep it wrapped in a cloth and use it for periods rather than pressing something frozen directly against your skin.

Keep Food Away From the Sore Area

• A rinse after eating. It feels simple. It stops the same tiny bits from hanging around the sore spot.

• Soft foods are easier for a days particularly if chewing on that side makes the pain flare up.

Don’t Ignore Pain That Keeps Returning

Wisdom teeth hurt because there isn’t enough room for them to come through properly. The tooth may grow at an angle. Remain partly covered by gum. That creates a pocket where bacteria and food can collect which’s why the pain sometimes disappears and then shows up again a few days or weeks later.

That repeating pattern matters. If the pain keeps returning treating it with painkillers every time isn’t really solving the problem. A dentist can examine the tooth. Take an X-ray if needed to see what is happening underneath the gum.

Signs You Should Get Dental Care

• Swelling around the gum or cheek especially when it keeps getting larger.

• Trouble opening your mouth properly. That is worth getting checked than hoping it settles overnight.

• A bad. Discharge around the wisdom tooth, which can point to an infection.

•. Feeling generally unwell alongside dental pain. At that point this has moved beyond an annoying toothache.

Give the Tooth a Fair Chance. Know When to Stop

For mild wisdom tooth pain gentle cleaning, warm saltwater rinses, a cold pack and suitable over-the-counter pain relief can make the next day or two much easier. The trick is knowing when home treatment has done enough.

Do not try to pull the tooth yourself. Do not poke the gum with objects either.. Skip random antibiotic tablets left over from an old illness. Antibiotics are not a substitute, for treatment when the underlying problem is a trapped or badly positioned tooth.
