How to Get Rid of Bad Smell From Mouth?

2 min read

Start With Better Mouth Cleaning

Brushing twice a day is the obvious bit, but technique matters. Spend about two minutes brushing and don’t scrub so hard that your gums feel sore afterward. Your tongue deserves attention too. Bacteria collect there, especially toward the back, and that coating can smell surprisingly strong.

Don’t Skip Between Your Teeth

Food stuck between teeth can start smelling before you even realise it’s there.

• Your tongue matters too. Give it a gentle clean, particularly toward the back where that coating tends to sit.

• Dry mouth makes things worse, so keep water nearby and sip through the day. It’s a small habit that feels almost too easy to matter, but it does.

Look at What You’re Doing Every Day

Some foods leave strong smells behind. Garlic is the obvious troublemaker. Onions aren’t exactly innocent either. But bad breath isn’t always caused by what you ate that morning.

Smoking dries the mouth and leaves its own smell behind, so stopping is one of the best things you can do for your breath. I wouldn’t rely on mouthwash to fix the problem either. A strong minty taste can make you feel fresh for a while while the original cause is still sitting there.

Don’t Ignore Your Gums

If your bad breath keeps coming back despite good brushing, pay attention to your gums. Bleeding during brushing isn’t something you should simply accept as normal. Gum disease can cause persistent bad breath because bacteria and inflammation build up around the gums.

Give It a Little Time

Better breath usually comes from boring habits done consistently. Brush properly. Clean between your teeth. Clean your tongue. Drink enough water. Give your gums some attention.

If the smell still hangs around after you’ve tightened up your routine, don’t keep throwing products at it. Something else could be going on, and a dentist can usually narrow it down pretty quickly.
